The Art Institute is also home to the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Operating for over 100 years, the school is recognized as a leading innovator in the arts movements both historically and today. The school has a few exhibition centers where student's works can be seen on display. Many of these artists are immensely talented and are beginning to receive recognition for their up-and-coming works, making these galleries one of the best places in America to sniff out the next hot new artist.
The Student Union Galleries hosts exhibitions by both novice and experienced artists, many of which are very experimental and contemporary. The 1926 Exhibition Studies Space is a venue for collaborations between different artists, students and faculty. Gallery 2 is an off-campus, student-run art space. It features performances, video screenings, exhibitions and sound presentations all done by students. This viewing space is integral to students as it allows them the opportunity to design, prepare and carry out their own shows. Contemporary work is the main focus at the School's Betty Rymer Gallery. Students who show their works here are encouraged to display their most visually stunning, provocative and stimulating works.
