Chicago Museums
Chicago has dozens of museums of every description. The
Field Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Science and Industry, the
Shedd Aquarium and even the
Adler Planetarium are typical of museums, which might be found in any of the world's major cities. But Chicago has a number of "specialty" museums as well. The
Museum of Broadcast Communications, the International Museum of Surgical Science, the Museum of Holography and the Peace Museum with exhibits focusing on Civil Rights and John Lennon are a few prime examples. Of course, as an ethnic "melting pot", you will also be able to find museums dedicated to specific ethnic groups. There are museums for the Ukrainian, Swedish, Jewish, Lithuanian, Mexican, Polish, and Oriental communities.
Chicago also has a
Historical Society, a museum that features information on the famous Water Tower and even one about the State Street Bridge. If you prefer art, Chicago is the home to several galleries. The
Art Institute is known around the world, but don't miss the City Gallery, the Terra Museum of American Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Many of Chicago's museums are free, or have
free admission on certain days.
