The Drake calls itself "Chicago's Lakefront Landmark with charm, elegance and tradition", and it is hard to argue with them. Since 1920 the Drake has been synonymous with "old-world" style and class. From the minute you enter the grand lobby you will feel the history of this grand old hotel. Rooms, while a bit small by contemporary standards, have high ceilings, are luxuriously furnished and come complete with fresh flowers and fruit.
By all means, ask for a lake view room. The Drake is located where Chicago's Magnificent Mile meets the Oak Street Beach, so the views in nearly any direction are very good. Of course, the Drake offers an in-house fitness center as well as a business center. The Coq d'Or was one of the first bars to open after prohibition and is an elegant place to unwind. With live music in the evenings and a full menu you can't go wrong here. The Cape Cod is the Drake's award-winning restaurant and the Oak Terrace provides excellent views of the beach and the Lake as well as outstanding food.
