Museum Free Days Chicago
One of the great features of most of Chicago's museums is that they offer free admission to the public on certain days. By following this schedule, you can save a bundle on admission fees.
On Mondays, between September and February, you can get into the Adler Planetarium, Field Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium (although the Oceanarium has a separate entrance fee every day) and the Museum of Science and Industry free of charge. Since the Field Museum, Aquarium and Planetarium are literally across the street from one another, that makes things convenient, although it would be difficult to take in all three places in a single day.
The same Museums that offer free admission on Monday do so on Tuesday as well (September through February). Offering free Tuesdays year round are the Art Institute of Chicago, the International Museum of Surgical Science, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Terra Museum of American Art.
Thursdays are free at the DuSable Museum of African-American History and the Terra Museum of American Art. The Chicago Children's Museum offers free admission on Thursday from 5 until 8pm only.
Friday is a great day to visit the Spertus Museum, a small downtown museum with Jewish artifacts covering over 5,000 years, since they offer free admission on that day.
The following Museums and other places of interest never charge admission: Chicago Cultural Center, Garfield Park Conservatory, David and Alfred Smart Museum of Art, Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, Lincoln Park Conservatory, Lincoln Park Zoo, Martin D'Arcy Gallery of Art, Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Newberry Library.
