Shedd Aquarium Chicago
The largest indoor aquarium n the world, and one of the oldest in the country, the John G. Shedd Aquarium is not content to rest on its reputation or long history. This Chicago institution continues to grow and develop; keeping itself high on the list of the city's many popular attractions. Situated among the cluster of museums situated around Chicago's Grant Park the Aquarium is conveniently located and may make up an entire day or be just one stop on a museum "tour". The massive glass wall in the Oceanarium gives the illusion that the dolphin pool extends directly into Lake Michigan and provides a serene backdrop to the activity.
In the main part of the aquarium you will see over 8000 species of marine life from around the world. A special feature is the enormous reef tank where divers enter daily to hand feed fish while they "converse" with museum guests on the outside of the tank. Small children may tire from simply moving from tank to tank, but will undoubtedly enjoy the dolphin show, the sea lions, and a few other age appropriate exhibits. Admission to the Oceanarium is separate from general admission to the aquarium.
